ENTER: 2014 Australian Timber Design Awards

Enter the 15th Australian Timber Design Awards

Entries for the 15th annual Australian Timber Design Awards are now open. Last year saw a record-breaking number of entries, so we're expecting 2014 to be huge. This means more entrants, more prizes and big publicity for the winners!

Entries may be considered for five Application Awards and various Recognition Awards (previously the "Best Use Of" Awards). Additional awards include the Sustainability Award, the Rising Star Award, the Small Budget Projects Award… and the very popular People's Choice Award.

Entries close 27 June 2014. Winners will be announced in Sydney at the Awards Presentation Night in mid-September. Download the entry form here.

The aim of the Awards is to develop a timber design ethos through the encouragement and showcasing of superlative timber design in a variety of applications. A broad range of entry categories demonstrates the diversity of timber and permits recognition of achievement in a variety of areas.

The Australian Timber Design Awards are open to builders, designers, architects, engineers and landscapers: to anyone involved in the design or building of structures that feature timber. A Rising Star Award is available to students and entrants aged 35 or under.

Timber is a beautiful, strong and environmentally friendly material. The Australian Timber Design Awards encourage entries that showcase these properties. Categories recognise outstanding use of timber in residential buildings and public or commercial buildings.

Award categories include:

Application Categories
An entry may be considered for only ONE of the following Seven Application Categories. (The online form has questions to assist in selecting the appropriate category)
Residential Class 1 – New Buildings
Single-family dwellings.
Residential Class 1 – Best Renovation
Single-family dwellings or townhouses/villas.
Multi-Residential – New Building
Where a building contains accommodation for unrelated occupants.
Public or Commercial Buildings
Shops, resorts, apartment buildings, aged care facilities, etc.
Interior Fitout
A fitout of a new or existing building (a renovation). The building may be residential or commercial (offices, shops, building foyers, etc.)
Outdoor Timber – Stand-alone structures
Sheds, landscapes, boardwalks, decks, bridges, etc. These projects must be unattached stand-alone structures. For example, a new deck that substantially alters the existing Residential Class 1 dwelling to which it is attached should be entered for Best Renovation, not Outdoor Timber.
Furniture and Joinery Award
The best use of timber in furniture and/or joinery (e.g. in stairs, wardrobes, etc).
An entry into any of the first four categories may also be entered into the Interior Fitout category. This will be considered as another entry and require the payment of an additional fee (A discount for two entries from the one company is available).

Distinction Awards Categories
Your entry may be considered for any Distinction Awards for which you feel it is suitable. This is in addition to consideration for one of the above Application Categories.

The Distinction Awards comprise:
The Sustainability Award#
The entry that makes best use of sustainable design principles.
The Rising Star Award
The best entry from an entrant who was (1) aged 35 or under on the date of project completion or (2) enrolled in full time study on the completion date.
The Small Budget Projects Award
The best entry based on a project costing less than $200,000.
# The Sustainability Award criteria and judging will be managed separately by Planet Ark’s Make it Wood campaign. If you select the Sustainability Award in the registration form, a detailed questionnaire from Planet Ark’s Make it Wood will be sent to you along with other entry questions.
