At the University of Queensland Durability Centre, Jeff and his team are conducting long term studies of various timber components and using sophisticated techniques like DNA sequencing to try and better understand the fungal communities that cause decay in wood. Research into the decay process can help develop appropriate preservative treatments, ensure the right species are selected for each application and extend the service life of wood to optimise its environmental benefits.
