AIA NSS4 Timber Fire Engineering Seminars

TOPIC: Fire safety Solutions Using Timber

PRESENTER: Paul England, Director, EFT Consulting

SCOPE:

The presentation will provide a brief overview of the advantages and limitations of timber with respect to fire safety followed by a series of examples showing how you can retain design freedom while satisfying fire safety requirements.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Getting the most out of the current BCA deemed-to-satisfy requirements
  • Simple alternative solutions to address minor deviations from the BCA deemed-to-satisfy requirements
  • International Developments extending the use of massive timber (including Cross Laminated Timber-CLT) and timber framed construction in multi-storey buildings and how technical barriers to the application of these initiatives in Australia can be addressed under the National Construction Code - BCA.
  • The advantages and limitations of timber systems when exposed to fire.
