New Case Study: Candlebark School Library

The site is a visionary school where students interact with each other, staff and 1100 acres of mostly bushland. The project is a library - a centre for learning resources and communication - and a safe haven in case of bush fires.

The answer is a fascinating structure combining new and recycled timbers, an earth covered roof and a range of low energy systems to maximise sustainability.

Candlebark School Library was the overall winner of the 2012 Australian Timber Design Awards (ATDA) for architect Paul Haar.
