Located in the Norwest Business Park and developed by Mulpha Norwest, The Bond is a mixed use development currently in the tender design phase. The project consists of 7-storeys of mass timber glulam frame supporting Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) floor and roof panels, utilising an 8.4m x 8.4m grid.

The five accommodation units comprise of 62 guest rooms in total. The pods vary in height between two and four storeys and use CLT floors and walls.

Hines’ first initiative in Melbourne, this development represents an exciting sign of the times for timber construction. With two massive timber offices already built in the US and several more slated to start in the coming years, the Hines T3 strategy (Timber, Transit and Technology) replaces structural systems such as concrete and steel with prefabricated solid wood systems, to create best-in-class projects in a fast, clean, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing manner.

Construction is well underway for a new 624 bed student accommodation building for La Trobe University. It will be the largest mass timber building in Victoria, utilising 4,640 cubic meters of Cross Laminated and Glued Laminated timber, and forms part of La Trobe’s ambitious plan to transform its Bundoora campus into a University City of the Future.

The Olèa apartments developed by Gibson Property Corporation and Roche Property Holdings are being completed by Figurehead (builder) with stud frames and floor cassettes supplied by Timbertruss. Adjoined by vast reserves and parklands, these apartments are nestled in a safe and lush botanic community combining the best of all amenities and effortless connectivity, in one of Victoria’s fastest growing suburbs.

Recently handed over to the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, the first stage of the Preston Renewal Project involved the delivery of one 3, and one 4 storey multi-residential structure.

Construction commenced in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 15 months (September 2020), with the 5 floors of CLT erected in October 2019. The architect and his client are excited to be part of a natural and sustainable way of building that contributes to higher density residential development with a passive solar design and shared rooftop deck that will encourage a sense of community.
